          Mrs. SCHROEDER introduced the following bill; which was referred to

              the Committee on the Judiciary

          To authorize appropriations to develop technologies that can be 

          used to combat terrorism, and for other purposes.

          Representatives of the United States of America in Congress

          assembled, [<-Italic]

          SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

            This Act may be cited as the `Counterterrorism Technology 

          Research Act of 1995'.

          SEC. 2. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO SUPPORT COUNTERTERRORISM

                            TECHNOLOGIES.

            There are authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $20,000,000

          to the National Institute of Justice Science and Technology Office

          in the Department of Justice--

                (1) to develop technologies that can be used to combat

              terrorism, including technologies in the areas of--

                    (A) detection of weapons, explosives, chemicals, and

                  persons;

                    (B) tracking;

                    (C) surveillance;

                    (D) vulnerability assessment; and

                    (E) information technologies;

                (2) to develop standards to ensure the adequacy of products

              produced and compatibility with relevant national systems; and

                (3) to identify and assess requirements for technologies to

              assist State and local law enforcement in the national program

              to combat terrorism.
