[Italic->] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, [<-Italic] SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the `Counterterrorism Technology Research Act of 1995'. SEC. 2. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO SUPPORT COUNTERTERRORISM TECHNOLOGIES. There are authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $20,000,000 to the National Institute of Justice Science and Technology Office in the Department of Justice-- (1) to develop technologies that can be used to combat terrorism, including technologies in the areas of-- (A) detection of weapons, explosives, chemicals, and persons; (B) tracking; (C) surveillance; (D) vulnerability assessment; and (E) information technologies; (2) to develop standards to ensure the adequacy of products produced and compatibility with relevant national systems; and (3) to identify and assess requirements for technologies to assist State and local law enforcement in the national program to combat terrorism.
